Neonatology Intensive Care Unit
Greyson while in NICU

Greyson, 3 months old and weighing
4 pounds, spent 102 days in the NICU.

In the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), we provide the highly specialized, family-centered care your baby needs at this time. Our first priority is taking care of your baby and family. Babies need the love and comfort of their families, and we encourage you to come be with your baby whenever you can.

The  NICU, is located on the 4th floor of Children's Hospital and on 7 South of Vanderbilt University Hospital. There are 62 single-patient rooms equipped with the latest technology and staffed by health care professionals trained to treat the most complex problems facing newborn babies.

The 16-bed Stahlman NICU, which is connected to the Children's Hospital NICU by a hallway, is immediately adjacent to Labor and Delivery, keeping babies close to their mothers whenever possible.

Visitation
Parents, grandparents, and up to two people chosen by the parents may visit any time. All other visitors may come ONLY with a parent. All family and friends, except the baby's brothers and sisters, need to be at least 12 years old, since this is a state law. Brothers and sisters need to be at least 5 years old, and may only visit on the weekends (except during the winter months for infection control purposes). Please check with the infant's nurse to see if siblings may visit before arriving at the hospital.

You may bring anyone you wish to see your baby, but they must be healthy and not recently exposed to any contagious diseases. For the baby's welfare, we ask that everyone wash their hands and arms thoroughly. This requires rolling up sleeves to the elbow and removing all rings, watches and bracelets.
