Parents
Did you know that The Tennessee Lions Eye Center at Children’s Hospital trains Lions Volunteers to screen your pre-literate child (age 1 through 5 years) for vision problems?

We are presently using two non-invansive instruments for vision screening: The MTI Photoscreener and the Welch Allyn SureSight.  Each instrument will detect vision problems which could potentially cause amloyopia (lazy eye).

The Tennessee Lions Club volunteers are trained by Vanderbilt Outreach Program staff and will come to your local facility (i.e. Day Cares, Sunday Schools, Head Starts) to conduct the free screening. Screening results are evaluated and returned to the screening location. If your child is referred with a potential vision problem you will receive a "Parent To Do List" along with a list of eye care professionals in your area who are familiar with the program and are able to evaluate your child.

Letters from parents

"I wanted to thank the Gallatin Lions Club for providing vision screening in our community."

"On behalf of Williamson County Even Start I want to thank the Tennessee Lions and Vanderbilt for your effort in performing vision screening for our children. We appreciate your services very much."

"Thanks you so much for sending the Lion's Club to our pre-school to perform the eye screening.  I know that these tests have helped some of our children that did indeed have a vision problem.  The parents of these children were so grateful for this early detection.  Keep up the good work and may God bless you for your efforts."

"My son is five years old, we had no idea he had a vision problem but on your screening advise we found that he is very far sighted.  He would have begun kindergarten in the fall with an immediate disadvantage. "I am so thankful that we are able to start working immediately toward correction his vision.  He is now the proud wearer of glasses and within just a week's time, I can already see an improvement."
