The Complex AeroDigestive Evaluation Team (CADET) at Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is known for a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to evaluating and caring for chronically ill children with complex airway (voice box, windpipe), pulmonary (lung), upper digestive tract (esophagus, stomach), sleep, and feeding disorders.
The mission of the CADET team is to provide high-quality, interdisciplinary care to patients with aerodigestive disorders. By coordinating evaluations from our clinics, laboratories and radiologists, as well as surgical procedures, we strive to provide answers to tough questions as quickly as possible. Our experienced team provides coordinated and well-integrated care, patient and parent education, and ongoing evaluation of patient progress. Excellent communication is at the heart of our CADET team, and Vanderbilt leads the way in state-of-the-art computerized medical records and data management.
The core team is made up of faculty from the following specialties:
This close collaboration between these different specialties offer many advantages for patients and families:
- Scheduling only one appointment, at one location, to see all doctors and care providers
- Your child is put under anesthesia only once for evaluation (not separately for each sub-specialist)
- All physicians share a single patient record and together develop a collaborative treatment plan
- There is continuity of care throughout the entire length of treatment
- Efficient pathway to diagnosis and treatment
