| Epilepsy is a term that includes various types of seizures. Approximately three to five percent of all children may experience a seizure before age 10. For some children, that may be their only one. Other children may develop spontaneous seizures. That's where we can help.
Pediatric neurologists at the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt care for children with neurological disorders. Our team of experienced pediatric epilepsy specialists provides consultation, ongoing care and diagnostic services to identify and treat seizures.
Children's Hospital is the only Middle Tennessee facility for video-EEG monitoring for the evaluation of children with epilepsy. Our four-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is used for children suspected of having a seizure disorder in order to obtain an acurate diagnosis and the best treatment plan. In addition, we are involved in national trials of new anti-epileptic agents and have extensive experience in all forms of epilepsy management including dietary therapies for epilepsy and the comprehensive evaluation of children for epilepsy surgery.
