Miracle Story: Dalton Waggoner
The Pediatric Heart Institute offers a multitude of cardiology clinics to meet the needs of your child. If your child’s pediatrician or family doctor suspects a heart condition, an appointment can typically be made within 1-2 days in our Consultation Clinic. Some children’s heart defects are first recognized while they are in the hospital, and following discharge, these children typically are followed in the clinic of the physician who has managed them while they were hospitalized. Some conditions are managed in special clinics, such as the Arrhythmia Clinic, Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic, Fetal Cardiology Clinic, Single Ventricle Clinic, Heart Transplantation Clinic, Adults with Congenital Heart Disease Clinic, Down Syndrome Clinic, and Cardiac Genetics Clinic.

We offer a number of satellite clinics that may provide added convenience to your visit, including a daily clinic at the Edward Curd office building adjacent to Williamson Medical Center in Franklin, a weekly clinic at the Ayers Children’s Clinic at Jackson Madison County General Hospital, and a twice monthly clinic at Fort Campbell Army Base.

A typical visit consists of a number of steps. Vital signs are obtained as you are offered the opportunity to write down you child’s concerns and history. Your physician then will ask detailed questions and perform a thorough physical examination. Often, an electrocardiogram, echocardiogram, chest X-ray, or other tests are performed during the visit, and the results are reviewed with you prior to the conclusion of the visit. In some situations, the evaluation process can be quite extensive, and may require 2-3 hours to complete, so please bring your child’s favorite toys, videos, snacks, and diaper supplies if needed. Additionally, please consider this time frame if arrangements need to be made for the care of your other children.

We are pleased that the Pediatric Heart Institute’s Cardiology Clinics have received the highest patient satisfaction ratings possible, based on the quality of care provided, timely service, and friendly staff. Families consistently report that they leave with their questions answered and with an understanding of their child’s condition and plan. We realize that these results are contingent upon the continued cooperation of every member of our team as we continue to strive to further enhance our services to best meet the cardiac needs of your loved one.
