Pediatric Critical Care Unit

The Pediatric Critical Care Unit (PCCU) is a 36-bed unit that provides highly specialized care for critically ill children. The PCCU is comprised of the PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) and the PCICU (Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit). The PCCU patient population includes children with various conditions including neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, renal/genitourinary,orthopedic, complex congenital anomalies, burns, traumatic injures, and /or multi-system involvement.

The PCCU serves as a regional and national referral center for critically ill children and their families who require the most advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services. The PCCU is a team of physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers, respiratory therapists, child life specialists, and other essential care providers.

One of our goals is to prevent disease and infection throughout the care of your child. We strive continuously to identify new techniques and treatments that will contribute to the future well-being of your child and family. The PCCU at Children's Hospital provides a unique environment designed to meet the emotional and physical needs of your child and family as well as assist in the improvement and healing process. Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
Some children admitted to Children's Hospital require critical care and intensive post surgical care. The PICU cares for children of all ages needing special attention from trauma, surgery, and various types of conditions such as neurological, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, renal/genitourinary, orthopedic, and/or multi-system involvement. The PICU team consists of physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers, respiratory therapists, child life specialists, and other essential care providers who have specialized training in caring for children.

Pediatric Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (PCICU)
PCICUA significant number of children admitted to Children's Hospital suffer from heart disease; many of of which have congenital abnormalities. The PCICU cares for those children while they are critically ill and recovering from cardiac surgery. The PCICU is a team of physicians, nurses, social workers, case managers, respiratory therapists, child life specialists, and other essential care providers who are trained in treating children with heart conditions.
