John W. Brock, III, M.D.Surgeon-in-Chief

Dr. Brock is the Surgeon-in-Chief of Children’s Hospital.  He joined the faculty in 1983 and is Professor of Urologic Surgery and Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University.  In 1992 he became the Director of the Division of Pediatric Urology.  He was named Surgeon-in-Chief of Children’s Hospital in 2002.

Dr. Brock received his Bachelor of Science in History from Vanderbilt University in 1974 and his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in 1978.  From 1979 to 1982, he was a resident in Urology at Vanderbilt University and served as Chief Resident in 1982-1983.  He was Board Certified by the American Board of Urology in 1985.

Dr Brock was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society Faculty in 1992. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and a Fellow of the Society of Pediatric Urologists. He is the coordinator of the research grant committee for the Society of Pediatric Urology. He is active in the American Urological Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the South Eastern Section of the American Urological Association serving as presenter and moderator. His presentations have won several awards.  He is a member of the American Medical Association.  Dr. Brock is on the Editorial Board of International Pediatric Surgery and Editorial Board of the Pediatric Urology Section of the Journal of Urology and the Executive Committee of the Journal of Pediatric Urology.
