Parent's Magazine Top 25 Children's HospitalsParents magazine
The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt has been ranked No. 15 on a listing of best children's hospitals in the U.S. by Parents magazine, the third national accolade earned by the hospital this year. The rankings are based on a comprehensive, 250-question survey of the hospital's performance, including survival rates, staff qualifications, patient safety efforts, research and the number of complex procedures performed. Parents sent the survey to all full members of the National Association of Children's Hospitals and Related Institutions. Press Release

Leapfrog 2009Leapfrog Top Hospital
Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt has been named among the nation's Leapfrog Top Hospitals for 2009. Vanderbilt University Hospital and Children's Hospital were the only two Tennessee hospitals on this year's list. The top hospitals are recognized for providing excellent patient care safety and quality in an annual survey by The Leapfrog Group. Leapfrog is the provider of the nation's hospital patient safety evaluation tool and provides consumers with scores and assessments for more than 1,200 adult and pediatric hospitals.


U.S. News & World Report 
The Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt is again ranked among the nation's best children's hospitals by U.S. News & World Report magazine. The magazine's annual rankings for America's Best Children's Hospitals placed Vanderbilt among the top 30 in the United States in five pediatric specialty categories. Pediatric Urology maintained its No. 6 ranking while two other programs, Neonatology and Pediatric Gastroenterology, made significant gains. Neonatology improved from 13th to 11th, while Pediatric Gastroenterology moved from 21st to 18th. Read full story.

 

Fortune 100Fortune magazine
For the first time Vanderbilt has been named one of the top 100 best places to work in the United States in Fortune magazine's prestigious annual survey; it is the first university ever to be named to the list. The ranking encompasses approximately 21,000 employees at Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center. The rankings are determined through an extensive survey process and are based on levels of credibility, respect, fairness, pride and camaraderie in the workforce. More than 81,000 employees from 353 companies responded to the survey nationwide, and a wealth of further information was submitted by management. The survey was conducted by Fortune in conjunction with the Great Place to Work Institute, based in San Francisco. Press Release


ANCC Magnet RecognitionMagnet Nursing
Vanderbilt Medical Center, which includes Children's Hospital, is designated as a Magnet hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Magnet Recognition is a much sought-after distinction for health care institutions, which must satisfy a demanding set of criteria measuring the strength and quality of nursing. Magnet hospitals are known as places where nurses deliver excellent patient care and have a high level of job satisfaction. Magnet hospitals also foster open communication between nurses and members of the health care team and provide nurse involvement in decision-making about patient care. The Web Marketing Association awarded www.vanderbiltchildrens.org a 2009 WebAward for Achievement in Web Site Development as part of its international WebAward competition. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation and use of technology. This WebAward recognizes the standard of excellence for which all Web sites should strive. WebAwards is the premier annual award competition that judges Web site development.


eHealthcare Leadership Award Logo The Children's Hospital's Web site received a silver award in the 2009 eHealthcare Leadership Awards in the Best Design category for hospitals with 200-399 beds. More than 1,100 entries were received from a wide range of health care organizations. Best design recognizes design that is unusual, attractive and engaging while facilitating access to key site information and provide strong branding and excellent usability.
