Live It! is a partnership program between the Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, Alignment Nashville and Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools. Live It! is a collaborative effort to create a culture of wellness by bringing community partners together to educate and encourage students, staff, parents and community members in the development of healthy eating and physical activity habits.
In the past 3 years Live It! has been an 8 week program in Middle Schools. This year Glencliff High School was chosen to be the Live It! school and programming will be implemented the entire academic year. Community organizations along with Vanderbilt students, nutrition interns, sports medicine trainers, athletes, Children's Hospital staff, volunteers and school nurses partner with schools and teachers to help educate the children about living a healthy life-style.

The Live It! Go for the Red, White and Blue! program features four student activities:
Step With it - for physical activity
Fit It In - for healthy eating
Track It - for an easy way to track your activity and eating
Rewards and Recognition - easy and fun awards and recognition for meeting goals
By being active and eating right students improve both mind and body, becoming more alert and more energetic. The goals of Live It! Go for the Red, White & Blue! program are to establish a healthy behavior for the students, increase health knowledge, increase positive behaviors related to nutrition and physical activity and incorporate lesson plans to combine physical activity and nutrition with academics. Live It! Go for the Red, White & Blue! will help educate students on healthy lifestyle choices and provide information on how they can lead a healthier life. For more information about the Live It! Quotes from our Participants
"Since Live It! I have stopped drinking sodas like Sprite, Pepsi, etc. I am now watching what I eat and making sure I drink enough water. I don't feel lazy as much as I used to." - Student
"I am more conscious of my activity level and the amount of veggies I take in on a daily basis." - Student
"I have decreased my food and calorie intake...and have lost 12 pounds since the first of December!" - Student
"I think it is a great program. Investing in the health of our students is as important as anything we can do. It doesn't matter if our kids can read, write, add, or subtract if they [aren't healthy] by the age of 40 from complications due to obesity!" - Teacher/School Staff Member
"This program this year has made me more aware of the calories that I have been taking in and I don't really need. THANKS!" - Teacher/School Staff Member
