| The design and construction of the Children's Hospital is award-winning, and has been recognized by several organizations.
Awards
1. Award of Excellence for 2003 presented to Spectrum Interiors by the Kentucky Associated General Contractors for the drywall work.
2. 2004 American Institute of Architects - Tennessee Design Award Winner. One of three Awards of Excellence (highest award presented in the state) presented at the Tennessee A.I.A. awards banquet.
3. Gold Award (top award) presented by the Tennessee State Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) for the interior design.
4. Electronic Lifestyles Award for Best Special Project in the Country (USA) for 2004, presented by the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association at their annual Expo (September, 2004) in Indianapolis (for the design of the Children's Theater). As a result of this, Brian Warford and Alex Nicholson were honored as ELF Foundation national volunteers of the year. (The ELF Foundation provided funding for the audio-visual equipment used in the theater.)
5. Won the highest award at the local level in the Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence in Construction awards. (this local-level win qualifies the project to be entered at the national level).
6. Chosen as THE winner in the healthcare category of the Building Interior Design 2005 Awards sponsored by Building magazine. This national award is featured in the March, 2005 issue of Building magazine and is also the "cover" story.
7. Received AWI Award of Excellence from the Architectural Woodwork Institute (AWI). The project was "showcased" in the Winter 2005 issue of Design Solutions magazine (Journal of the Architectural Woodwork Institute). This award was presented to Steve Ward Associates for the architectural woodwork produced and installed in the project (including the detailed plastic laminate inlay work).
8. At the 2005 Engineering Excellence Awards banquet, Smith Seckman Reid received a Merit Award in the category of Studies, Research, & Consulting Engineering Services for the Commissioning of the mechanical systems. This award, presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Tennessee (ACEC) recognizes "the Highest Standards of the Engineering Profession and Management Practices".
9. Earned the Grand Champion and Best Commercial Decorative Project of the 2005 Concrete Excellence Awards for Tennessee as presented by the Tennessee Concrete Association.
10. Earned a 2005 International Illumination Design Award of Merit from the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America.
11. Winner of a 2005 Excellence in Development Award sponsored by the Greater Nashville Regional Council.
12. Won Fourth Place in the 2005 photo contest from the Industrial Perforators Association. Photos were published on the at http://www.perforatingdesigns.com.

14. As a result of the award for the Children's Theater (see Awards No. 4 above), Brian Warford and Alex Nicholson will be on the cover of an upcoming issue of CE Pro, a trade magazine, with the VCH "Room of Magic" wall as the background.
15. Page 98 of the October, 2004, issue of Architectural Record is a full page add for Toli Floors in which the background photograph is of one of the 8th Floor Nurse Stations in VCH.

On the front page of the Personal Journal section an article entitled "A New Approach for Treating the Sickest Babies" includes and highlights the positive aspects of the design features of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital. A photo of the Vanderbilt design is also included in the article.

21. LGB DEPESCHE Issue No. 123, April, 2005. A publication by LGB (LEHMANN-GROSS-BAHN), the German manufacturer of the large scale trains in the Out-Patient Pharmacy and the 1st Floor Display case.
