| The Division of Pediatric Pulmonary Medicine offers a Pediatric Sleep Disorders program in partnership with the Department of Neurology and the Department of Internal Medicine. Mohammad Fazili, MD, a pediatric pulmonologist, is working with Beth A. Malow, MD, MS Director of the multidisciplinary Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Center and Ramon Cuevas, MD, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Neurology. Other physicians involved in the sleep program include Paul Moore (pediatric pulmonary) and Drs. Jay Werkhaven, Steve Goudy, and nurse practitioner Ken Watford (pediatric otolaryngology).
Approximately 30 to 40 percent of the patients currently evaluated in the Vanderbilt Sleep Disorders Center are children. The majority of studies are done in the ten-bed Marriott Hotel on 2555 West End Avenue which provides a child-friendly "hotel" environment to promote sleep. In addition, inpatient studies are performed at Children's Hospital for children under one year of age or those with medical problems needing more specialized care. Sleep studies are also now being performed at Hyatt Hotel, 650 Bakers Bridge Avenue, Franklin, TN 37067.
Prior to the performance of a sleep study, it is encouraged that patients be seen by a sleep specialist. The Pediatric Sleep Clinic will evaluate pediatric patients with possible obstructive sleep apnea, altered sleep patterns, and difficulty falling asleep and staying asleep. Office visits with Dr. Fazili (pulmonary) or Drs. Cuevas or Malow (neurology) can be arranged by calling The Pediatric Sleep Clinic at 615.343.5888.
