The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes offers a vibrant and growing research environment. Research projects include both laboratory and patient-oriented projects aimed at understanding and treating endocrine disease. Particular areas of interest include the development of Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, the regulation of glucose metabolism, the regulation of bone growth and development, and the body's response to hypoglycemia. These research projects receive funding from the National Institutes of Health as well as from pharmaceutical sponsors. Other research projects are focused on how genes and the endocrine system interact to affect the use of growth hormones to improve height as well as possible environmental and genetic causes of preterm birth.
